Corona Globes
Map out the world in a way that’s more emotional than technical with these globes that have been handcrafted from recycled paper in Japan. The unconventional design reduces the amount of information found on an average globe and renders the oceans in white and landmasses in black. This approach highlights the reliefs of islands and coastlines. The understated powder-coated steel base—the gentle curve recedes rather than standing out—blends in with the depicted ocean’s lustrous surface. Available in small (6” diameter) and large (10” diameter) sizes. Made in Japan.
Oki Sato, the designer who founded Nendo Studio, is the creator of the Cabbage Chair, a design object in MoMA's collection. Designed in 2007 as response to a challenge from fashion designer Issey Miyake, the chair utilizes the heaps of paper that are a by-product of the pleating process of many of Miyake's designs. Nendo Studio's work has also been featured in several MoMA exhibitions, including Action! Design over Time (2010-11) and Design and the Elastic Mind (2008).
