Description

In 1972, artist Andy Warhol created a series of triple-screened sunset prints—including over 472 unique color variations—for the renovation of a Minneapolis hotel. This limited edition of 500, produced by The Skateroom, makes two variations from this series available for the first time. The sustainable Canadian maple wood boards arrive in a custom-made felt carrying pouch and include all hardware needed to mount the boards on your wall. Four prints from Warhol's Sunset series are in MoMA’s collection.

For each set of Andy Warhol Sunset Triptych Skateboards sold, The Skateroom applies its '5:25' business model—5% of the turnover or 25% of the profit, whichever amount is higher—to fund NGO social projects using skateboarding and education as tools of empowerment for at-risk youth.

The Skateroom is a platform for promoting, selling and producing art on skateboards that supports youth-empowerment and development. Proceeds from this project will benefit Skateistan, an award-winning, international NGO with projects in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. Skateistan is the first international development initiative to combine skateboarding with educational outcomes.

Why We Chose This

Andy Warhol was commissioned by an architecture firm to create Sunset for the landmark Hotel Marquette in Minneapolis. 472 of the prints were used in the hotel, while 160 were assembled into 40 portfolios. Portfolios of Sunset are rare but one of them, containing four prints, was acquired for MoMA’s collection in 2012.
