Established in 1590, Ibasen is a Tokyo-based company that specializes in Uchiwa fans handmade from washi and bamboo. Its long-standing history includes contributions from 18th-century Ukiyo-e artists like Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, and Toyokuni. This Ibasen Zodiac Hand Fan features gold ink-embellished illustrations by French designer Jacque Averna, merging tradition with a modern twist. Each one of the twelve Junishi Japanese zodiac animals is represented by their own fan, including the snake which pays homage to the current year. Snakes are believed to represent mystery, wisdom and intelligence, and this particular one will appear to slither as you open and close the fan. The Ibasen Zodiac Hand Fan measures 9”l closed and 9l x 15.5”w when opened.
