MoMA Exclusive: A pop icon of French design, the Tam-Tam Stool was designed by Henry Masonnet in 1968 who was an amateur fisherman. He designed the hourglass-shaped, hollow stool for himself because its extremely lightweight design makes it easy to carry around. The stool's shape is inspired by a drum: in French "tam-tam" refers to a tambour africain, or tom-tom drum. The Tam-Tam Stool quickly became a best seller and 1960s icon after a photo of Brigitte Bardot sitting on it made the rounds. The Tam-Tam Stool can be used as seating anywhere around your home and outside (they’re perfect for poolside gatherings). Sought after by vintage design fans, the Tam-Tam Stool is available again, made in France from polypropylene. It measures 17.7h x 11.8"diam. Clean with warm water and a non-abrasive soap using a clean microfiber cloth. Do not use any harsh chemicals or abrasive surfaces.
